The Alpha King’s Rebellious Queen Chapter 79
Cassius’s POV
I ran through the woods under the direction of my son’s wolf. He and Enoch were connected and feeding me the direction I needed to go to replace my mate and children. My father and brother-in-law followed close behind. We stopped at the lake she had been taken from. We shifted back into human form and my beta and warriors were waiting for me. Jemma’s father was also waiting with some of his warriors.
“Iain told me to meet you here,” Phil said to me. “Please tell me you know where she is.”
I patted him on the back. “Nope. Sure don’t.”
Phil’s eyebrow rose and he glanced at my father.
“My son’s wolf is guiding us tonight, Phil.”
“Your son’s wolf?” He asked with an air of skepticism.
I nodded. “His name is Xerxes. He and his twin Aurora have been awoken from their dormancy to help Jemma and me.”
Phil took a deep breath. “That’s different. But seeing as they are twin white wolves I won’t doubt what you say. I just want my daughter back.”
The moon shone brighter and I felt my power grow. ‘Father, the power Aurora and I have is temporary tonight. I have lent some of my strength to Mother. When you and mother are reunited we will return to our dormancy.’ Xerxes explained,
‘Just get me to your mother and I will do the rest.’ I growled lowly in my head. Then it was like the moon lit up a path before me. I turned to the warriors. “Follow me,” I ordered them.
“Do you know where we are going?” Deke asked me.
“My son’s wolf is leading the way,” I replied as I shifted into my wolf and took off. I ignored the doubts and complaints coming from the warriors. My father and Phil ran just behind me. I know they had their doubts also. But then Iain’s wolf passed by me.
‘Sorry, Leopold is being drawn to his twin.’ He mind linked me.
‘Don’t be sorry, Iain. Just be careful. We don’t know what we are up against.’ I told him.
His wolf looked back at me and nodded. We ran for almost an hour. The trees grew thicker and I knew we were no longer in the kingdom or any pack lands. I did not know where we were at all. ‘Stop here,’ Xerxes instructed. I did as he said. ‘HALT.’ I ordered everyone else and shifted into human form. Luckily someone had brought shorts and I slipped a pair on that Deke handed me. I stepped into a clearing and heard howls in the distance.
‘Where is she, Xerxes?’ I demanded as my warriors lined up in the clearing. I stood in the center of them. The snarls and growls grew closer and I felt my warriors tense up.
‘Cassius.’ I heard her mindlink and my heart nearly leaped out of my throat as I looked around trying to see her.
‘Jemma!’ I shouted back as her scent slowly entered my senses. She then appeared on the other side of the clearing. She was bloody and dirty. She held her son in her arms. But it was my Jemma. Tears flooded my eyes as I looked upon her.
‘I have to leave you now, father. You and mother have to do the rest.’ Xerxes said to me.
‘Thank you, my son.’ I said as I watched Jemma set Nick down and then fall to her knees. “JEMMA!” I shouted as I ran to her. I immediately picked her up and held her tight.
“The pups are alright.” She said to me in a weak voice. I kissed her and then heard growls and fighting as rogues ran into the clearing and my warriors immediately engaged them. I needed to fight with them. I handed Jemma to her brother. She needed her twin to gain strength. “Get them to safety,” I ordered Iain. I looked down at Nick who looked frightened as hell. “Go with your uncle, Nick,” I said to my pup. A warrior picked up Nick and ran after Iain. I thought I heard Jemma protest. I shook my head and looked at my father and Phil. “To the end,” I said to them. I let out a roar as I shifted into my wolf and jumped into the fight.
Rogues took me on in groups and I fought through them furiously. They jumped on my back while others snapped at my legs and fur. Tearing chunks. I ripped off heads and snapped necks. B***d flowed out of my wounds before quickly healing. I saw rogues being killed by my father and Phil. I was beginning to feel exhaustion as the days without my mate had weakened me some. Wave after wave of rogues and weres of other species came at us. I watched my father and Phil take out a grizzly were together. Phil ripped its heart out as it shifted into a large human.
I weakened more as my wounds weren’t healing fast enough. My b***d spilled onto the ground. The sounds of fighting began to wane as I saw my cousin standing at the edge of the trees. I shifted back into my human form. Some of my wounds closed as I glared at him. “Why don’t you come and fight me, Felix.”
He just laughed and snapped his fingers. A grizzly bear charged towards me and I had to quickly shift back into my wolf. We fought ferociously. The bear was starting to gain on me as I felt Enoch gasping for breath. ‘We can do this buddy.’ I said to him.
‘The spirit is willing, Cassius. But the body is fading.’ Enoch whined.
The bear roared as I saw two black wolves jump on it. It was my dad and Phil. Then a grey wolf joined them and I knew it was Deke. Together we all managed to take down the bear and I delivered the final blow of ripping its throat out. I howled to the heavens as the fighting had stopped. Most of the rogues were dead or driven off. There were deaths on both sides. I shifted into human form again and Felix was gone. I snarled.
“Did you see where that bastard went?” I asked Deke. He shook his head. They had all shifted back to human form. “Dad?”
“Sorry, son.” He replied. I looked him over. He was covered in wounds and b***d and so was Phil. We all looked worse for wear. “I was distracted by the damn bears.”
“Deke, assess the damage. I am going to go look for Felix.” I ordered my beta.
He put a hand on my shoulder. “You are in no condition to keep going, Cass.”
“I want that son of a b***h dead!” I shouted at him. “Now, do as I tell you,” I said before running off in the direction I had last seen my cousin. His scent barely lingered as I followed it to a low-sitting building. I looked around and saw more c*****e. Rogues were torn apart. I saw a familiar face lying on the ground. He was barely breathing and lying in a puddle of b***d. “Jeremy?”
He looked up at me gasping. “A-are they safe? Are Jemma and Nick safe?” He gasped out.
I stood over him trying not to let my anger end his life. “Yes,” I replied to him. “No thanks to you. They are safe.”
He looked up at the sky. “Good.”
I heard laughing and turned to see my cousin standing a few feet behind me. “Felix,” I growled as I stepped towards him. “Still a coward I see. Not man enough to fight me.”
He shrugged. “Why fight when I can pay others to do it for me?”
“Because you are a coward that’s why. You would be a pathetic king for sure.” I snarled at him.
He laughed. “No, you are the pathetic one.”
“Let’s end this Felix. You and me. The winner gets the crown.” I challenged him.
He shook his head and backed away from me. “No, I would rather not get my favorite suit dirty.”
“Look at me.” I waved my hands. My wounds were slowly closing and I was losing a lot of b***d. I was barely holding on but I was still wanting to fight him. “I am almost done. You can take me. Can’t you?” I goaded him.
He shook his head again. “Nah. Not my style, Cassius.” I saw a glint of steel as he pointed a gun at me. I could smell the silver bullet within it. His finger was on the trigger as he backed away from me.
I snarled at him and charged. The gun went off and I was pushed to the ground by something hard and landed on my side. I sat up and heard a g***n. I checked my own body for a gunshot wound and saw Jeremy lying on the ground clutching his chest. I crawled over to him. “Did you just push me out of the way?”
He nodded. “I did it for Jemma.” He whispered. “She deserves all the love in the world and I can’t give it to her.” His eyes rolled into his head as I put my hand on the wound. “T-tell my son that I am sorry. Tell him I love him and that I am sorry.” He panted hard.
“Hold on Jeremy,” I whispered to him.
“No.” He pushed my hands away. “I am at peace.” He said looking up at me. “Take care of my son,” were his final words as I felt his heart stop.
I heard the clicking of metal and cursing and saw my cousin fighting with his gun. I snarled loudly at him and got to my feet and ran towards him. He threw the gun at me and I tackled him to the ground. He looked up at me with fear. “Goodnight, a*****e.” I snarled and ripped his head off. I held it as I stood up and turned to footsteps running towards me. It was my father, Phil, and my warriors. I held up Felix’s head and howled as loud as I could. “It’s OVER!” I bellowed as they cheered and howled with me. I dropped the head as my strength suddenly left me. I was losing too much b***d. I then fell to my knees. “Is she safe?” I asked Phil as he and my father knelt beside me.
Phil nodded. “Yes. Iain got her and Nick to safety.”
My heart thumped against my chest as relief filled me. She was safe. That was all that mattered. She and my pups were safe and with that I allowed myself to succumb to the darkness.
