The Billionaire's Mistake (Anya and Daniel)
Chapter 275: Mathew’s regret

"Still, I never used your mother as bait," Christopher said. To this, Mathew agreed. But, in his defense, he could not tell his parents that he had not known when he had brought her back that he would actually marry her. "Does she know you used her as bait?" Wendy asked and Mathew's face went dark. His reaction made his mother sigh and get up to leave.

"You will regret this," Wendy said and walked away.

How was he to explain that he already regretted it? At the time, he had not figured that he would because restless when the plan started.

He was sure that with this, she was going to leave him. After all, she might feel her life is in too much danger. He had many chances to stop the attack. But he had felt that it had to be done.

Now what?

Vivian woke to a silent room. She was not sure where she was and panicked slightly, till she saw Mathew seated beside her bed and calmed down.

When Mathew saw her move, he reacted and came over to her side.

"Don't be so quick to move," he said and she could not help but feel anger. Now he had finished his trap, he was back to being a gentle man.

"It is nothing," she said and insisted on moving. It hurt her like hell to move around, but she still had to. She wanted to leave this place. She wanted to leave him quickly.

"Are we done now? Can I leave?" she asked and he froze. He recalled he had promised he would protect her. She probably lost all that in him.

"You are sick," he kept a straight face. For some reason, he could not open his mouth to say what he truly wanted to say, that he regretted it, that he if he could go back, he would have protected her instead. But the words did not leave his mouth.

He watched as she got up and slowly started looking for her cloths.

"You did not bring my luggage?" she asked and he pointed to the walk in closet. She walked inside and started changing.

When she entered the closet to started packing Mathew felt dread.

Mathew was panicking. He was not sure how to react to her right now. She came out dressed and her luggage packed and he blocked her path.

"Shouldn't you rest first?" he said.

""No! I can't risk staying," she said.

The more natural she behaved, the more crazy Mathew felt.

"Vivian, go back to bed, you are not healed yet. And you are not going anywhere. I will take you back at the Rose mansion soon. Lily is waiting for you to wake up,"

She paused and looked at his blank face and raised a brow.

"I have already done my part here," she said, "I think I have paid off my debt to you right? Is there anything else?" she asked.

There was so much at the tip of his tongue that he wished to say, but he could not even utter the words. He had never had to explain himself before and could not bring himself to do so.

Vivian's phone started to ring. It was her ride calling her. She had ordered a taxi.

"I will be right down," she said and walked around Mathew downstairs.

"The rest of my things can be sent later when my team contacts you," she said as she went down the stairs with Mathew trailing behind her, looking slightly lost.

Down stairs, on the other side of the living room, Wendy and Ray saw Vivian dragging out a small luggage and looked at each other sharply. Before they made their way over, she had entered the taxi and left. They looked to Mathew who seemed to have lost his soul and his mother slapped his back.

"What have you done?" she scolded him.

"If you don't bring back my granddaughter-in-law, I will never forgive you," Ray had a cold look on his face as he threw those words at Mathew, turned around and left.

When Vivian got into the taxi, she broke into tears and cried.

But her taxi did not get far when it was suddenly surrounded by black cars.

She saw Mathew walk out of one of the cars in fury.

"What is it??" She asked but he only picked her up and walked to his car.

"What exactly do you want?!" Vivian basically screamed.

"Why are you throwing a tantrum, Vivian? Besides, where would you go? I have prepared the Rose mansion. It is yours to live there with Lily, okay?" he asked and she gave up.

She suddenly saw no need speaking to him. She decided to avoid him. When he is done using her, he will let her go. Hopefully, she doesn't die before that day.

She was taken to the Rose mansion where she returned to he room and shut the door without care.

It took a whole week before she could move around easily. Her entire body still hurt but she tried as much as possible to avoid Mathew.

Lily was the problem. She asked

room.

The weeks that past was hard for Mathew. He found that he enjoyed drinking a lot and was replaceing it hard to sleep.

He would take out his phone to call Vivian then pause, because he was not sure what he was going to say.

The week after, He was out all night and was not sure how he had gotten home.

Mathew woke up the next day to a splitting headache. He barely managed to open his eyes when he saw his mother's face hovering over him like a ghost. "Do you regret it?" she asked, and she stared at her for a while. He thought this was the same dream he had been having for months.

In the barely three hours of sleep he got daily, his mother still found a way to appear in his dreams and ask him this same question. "Yes," he answered for the first time.

"You deserve it," she said and got up from the bed to leave. Only then did he notice that this wasn't a dream.

"Are you joining ghosts to hunt me now, mom?" he asked.

"You were brought back drunk at night, muttering 'Vivian' all night. Am I wrong for asking?" she paused at the door and asked.

When he saw her cold expression, he got the feeling that she wanted him to hurt.

"Why does it seem as though mother is pleased that I am in pain?" he asked, smiling bitterly.

"Because you deserve it. I thought I had done everything right with you. People can question our family's line of business but never how we treat ourselves. I did not raise a man who uses his wife as bait," she said cofelly.

"Mom, you sure know how to stop someone where it hurts." he said with a bitter laugh.

"I have not even taken out the hammer to nail you to your coffin and you are acting as though you have died?" she asked.

"What could be worse than this? What could be worse than using Vivian as bait and getting her injured, then going crazy because she won't see me?" he asked.
