The Princess’s Broken Alpha -
Chapter 63
"With all that's going on with the chaining spell attempt on her life I just wondered how she was taking it. It's all anyone talks about, especially in my family these days. Everyone's afraid of what will happen you know," he said sadly, but Jackson wasn't buying it. get suspicious of their leader and his involvement.
There was something shifty about him. Jackson could only imagine the rift it was causing. If Indigo was indeed and he believed their relative well, it would give them a bad rap. And there's the saying about the apple not falling far from the tree. People would start to "How's that going?" asked Jackson with no sympathy at all.
Kyor looked to make sure the door was closed and his workers were busy far away from where they were. The last thing he wanted was an eavesdropper.
"What do you think wolf? We are under heavy scrutiny and fire. This is a war which will equal death if not eradication of our kind. On top of it all my uncle however seems to think everything will be fine. Then again he has to." Kyor spewed.
"So how is she?" he questioned again. One too many times for Jackson. Jackson was now more alert than ever. Why was he so concerned about how she was?
"To the best of my knowledge, she's fine. You seem mighty concerned Kyor." Jackson leaned forward and saw him flinch.
"I'm a good soul" he touched his chest but his dark eyes said differently.
"How do you just not talk to her?" Kyor asked.
It was definitely getting strange. Jackson placed his hands on the table and tilted his head to inspect Kyor. Though they were talking, Kyor was keeping a close eye on his movements.
"How do you know that I don't talk to her?"
"Rumour has it you two ignore each other. I heard you hate her to the core. I do run a top of the line restaurant Jackson. I tend to hear things." he replied smugly.
Jackson frowned at his comment. He was right to some extent. He had barely if ever spoken to her in years. He'd all but ignored and abandoned her. Again as said before, he wasn't winning any cousin of the year awards. "What else do you hear Kyor?" Jackson replied calmly as he studied the witch.
"I hear her best friend Castor Whitlock is up to be chosen as her mate and future king. If I were her I'd be careful." he spat and Jackson's red flags went off again.
"You don't approve of him?"
Jackson looked around. He was hungry. Kyor didn't answer the question and he asked again.
"Why don't you like Castor Kyor?" Jackson enquired " Is it because he was the one who apprehended your cousin?"
Kyor points at the table as if drawing a map and leans across it.
"Don't you replace it weird that he apprehends her and she just mysteriously goes missing?"
"I don't know the last I heard she was on the run."
"He did something to her." Kyor defended and that right there was his opening. He said it as if he was too positive, too passionate.
"Well it is a mating ball so she might not choose him Kyor. There's hope in that." Jackson would never call Castor king.
"Are you two close Kyor? You and Indigo that is." Jackson redirected the conversation.
"No. I just heard about her possible existence as a family member of mine at the same time as everyone else which uncle is yet to confirm."
"So you haven't seen or heard from her?"
"
No I haven't." Kyor shifted uncomfortably "Plus it would be dangerous of me to keep her when she's being hunted for her crimes. I would be a fool to be associated with her. I do have a flourishing business and life," he huffed. "A fool indeed." Jackson echoed.
"So do you approve of Castor?"
"No I don't. He's a swine and he isn't fit for her nor to be king."
"Who doesn't want to be king of the powerful beast kingdom?" Kyor responded, placing one hand on his jaw and looked at his red haired visitor intently. Many paragraphs are missing. "There's a clear line between ambition and greed and his eye sight is too poor to see the line. So it's absolutely not Castor and to be honest if I could I would throw in my bid. I'm a man and she's a woman. We have the right parts. Cousins mating cousins have been done before and we would make a good team. Keep it in the family and have powerful children."
Kyor gave him a look of mortification and he shrugged.
"I'm kidding" said Jackson.
Kyor looked at him warily not quite believing if he was joking or not.
"Whatever happened to Kiarra's mate? I heard she had went looking for him." Kyor was in full gossiping mode.
"I'm assuming she didn't replace him or let him go because he wasn't up to scratch plus it's a big shoe to fill. I wonder who he was though?" Jackson lied.
Jackson knew he was trying to get any details he could from him. He was glad Kiarra saw the light and decided upgrade. Unfortunately that upgrade was looking to be Castor.
Jackson sucked on his lip ring and snapped his fingers at a blonde chef that was passing by to head to the deep freeze.
"Make me a burger with fries lightly salted and I'll take a-" his eyes lingered down her body and he focused back up. "water will be fine."
She vividly blushed and scurried away to get his food not risking to look at her boss to confirm if it should be done. Kyor smirked as Jackson turned back around to him.
"I've never seen her before. That's a fresh face Kyor."
"A fresh body you mean to add to your list of conquests. Jackson when will it be your mating ceremony next?"
A dark cloud fell upon Jackson's face but it didn't seem to deter Kyor like it did most people.
"What mating ceremony?"
"The one where you pick a nice mate and begin a family."
"I will pick a good mate and begin a family when I feel like it and replace a woman that is up to par. I have expensive taste and I am yet to replace anyone who is worthy of me and who is powerful. It's not my fault they've all been lack lustre so far." "So you are waiting for your cousin?"
Jackson rolled his eyes.
"I'm just saying they should have something great to offer, to bring to the table. Do you know someone?" Jackson sarcastically asked.
"No, not for you. I don't hate anyone enough to do that to them."
