Under the Veil I Rule -
Chapter 115
As Liliana spoke, she fought back tears, trying her hardest not to cry.
"I know what I did today was really wrong. I'm not asking for your forgiveness; I just want you to know that I was just really scared."
Finnian gazed out the window quietly, the sunlight catching his deep eyes, softening the hard edges of his face just a little.
Finally, when Liliana finished, Finnian turned to her and said, "I understand. I'll think about what you said."
There were no sweet words, but compared to earlier, Finnian's tone was much gentler. Liliana's expression remained unchanged, though inside she felt a surge of relief.
After leaving the hospital, Finnian returned to the office to handle some
paperwork, only to receive a call from Hogan, who wanted to meet him at a café near the Everly Group offices.
Finnian went over, entered the private room Hogan had mentioned, and said coolly, "What's up?"
"Finnian," Hogan said, pushing a cup of freshly brewed coffee towards him, his tone a bit confrontational. "You must have guessed why I'm here, it's because of Liliana. I think we need to talk."
Liliana and Hogan were close, so Finnian wasn't surprised that she'd confided in him about what had happened. He replied, "Talk about what?"
Hogan's voice carried a hint of indignation. "Liliana told me what happened. Sure, she was wrong, but you've got to be more understanding. She's been through a lot.
Do you know how much pressure she's under, being with you unofficially like this? There are loads of people online calling her a homewrecker, saying she's shameless for having your baby as the 'other woman'. Besides all that, she faces all sorts of judgmental looks in her everyday life. Honestly, it's no wonder she acted the way she did today."
These words echoed what Liliana had expressed earlier in the hospital, though Hogan was far more straightforward.
Finnian's expression didn't change. "I get it."
Hogan observed Finnian's face, unsure of what he was thinking.
Among their cousins, Finnian stood out as exceptionally accomplished.
to remain calm and composed, rarely revealing his emotions, Hogan couldn't quite grasp what Finnian really thought.
One of his strengths was net
As he tried to gauge Finnian's feelings, he tentatively asked, "So, about the screenwriter for the production, are you still going with Amara?"
"I'll deal with that later. I have other matters to attend to, gotta run. You should head home too."
Finnian picked up the coffee Hogan
had made, took a symbolic sip, called the server over to settle the bill, and left. Hogan stayed a bit longer to call Liliana.
"Liliana, I talked to Finnian. He just said he understands. I'm not sure what he really thinks."
"Thanks a lot, Hogan. Without you, I wouldn't know what to do. Let's grab a meal sometime."
"Oh, come on. No need to thank me. I just want you and my brother to be happy."
After leaving the café, Finnian slowly walked back to the office but stopped at the entrance, lost in thought.
A senior executive happened to be returning from an errand and, upon seeing Finnian, paused to greet him. "Mr. Everly, what are you doing standing here? Heading out?"
