Under the Veil I Rule -
Chapter 141
"After going through all this, I've come to a realization. I can't take money from the Everly family, and frankly, there's no reason to do it. You never owed me anything in the first place. So, here it is. I'm giving it all back."
Amara's voice was steady, but Finnian's expression darkened with each passing second. He glared at the document on the table, his thoughts a mystery.
Seeing his silence, Amara took it as agreement and turned to leave.
"Stop!"
Finnian called her as he rose from his chair, striding over to face her.
His intense gaze bore into hers. "Is this really what you want? What are you planning to do after the divorce, running into Keith's arms? How much is he going to give you, and are you planning to take it all?"
The accusation was absurd. Amara looked up. "Mr. Everly, I have no idea what you're implying."
Her fists clenched, anger bubbling beneath the surface. Finnian was being ridiculous. She explained she was amending the property agreement for the sake of Liliana and Hogan, yet here he was, dragging Keith into the conversation. What was his problem?
She was done with this. She uttered in a grim tone, "Mr. Everly, you can think whatever you like. We're getting divorced soon, and I'm tired of arguing. Let's just get everything sorted."
With that, she didn't spare him another glance and walked out.
Finnian watched her angular form, his expression twisted with conflicting emotions. Even after the door closed and she was gone, his gaze lingered.
After sitting in his office for a while, Finnian stood up and headed over to Liliana's apartment.
"Finn, what brings you here?"
Finnian rarely visited unannounced, and as Liliana saw it was him when opening the door, her lips instantly curled upward; she welcomed him inside.
But once inside, she noticed his grim demeanor.
Instead of walking further inside, Finnian just stood in the entryway his face set in a hard line as he questioned, "Did you talk to Amara and tell her to give up her share of divorce assets?" en Ebookex
Liliana's smile froze, her heart racing with sudden panic.
"Did you?" Finnian pressed as there was no reply.
He had already guessed the truth from Liliana's reaction, not to mention he trusted Amara not to lie about something like this. He just wanted to hear it from Liliana.
Liliana bit her lip. "Yes, I did talk to
her. I was in Will's office and
accidentally saw the divorce papers.
It seemed unfair to give her so
much. I didn't mean anything else."
Her face burned with shame, wishing she could disappear. She had thought of Amara as someone who wouldn't cause trouble, a bit meek
keven, which gave her the confidence to confront Amara. But she hadn't expected Amara to be upfront with Finnian.
Regret gnawed at her at the moment, knowing it was too late to take back her actions.
"Why did you do it?"
Finnian's voice was calm but clearly displeased, his expression darkened.
"Amara deserves something from our divorce. After all, she's been through a lot
all these years. How could you ask her to forgo her share?"
Liliana's face was aflame, but she still believed she was right. Seeing Finnian willing to give Amara such a hefty sum infuriated her.
