Under the Veil I Rule -
Chapter 142
Liliana grew up in a family struggling to make ends meet. Her parents were both blue-collar workers, and over the years, she'd been determined to climb the social ladder, enduring hardships most people couldn't imagine.
Then there was Amara, born with a silver spoon. She seemed to get everything without lifting a finger. It was infuriating!
But when Finnian found out what Liliana had done, it made her seem so petty. She was at a loss for words.
Seeing the shame written all over Liliana's face, Finnian knew she regretted her actions. He sighed, rubbing his temples in exasperation. "Don't do anything like that again. It's our family that owes Amara, not the other way around."
Liliana's relief was palpable when Finnian's tone softened, her red eyes lifted. "Finn, I'm just glad you're not mad at me. I acted impulsively and regretted it the moment I did it."
She fought back tears, trying to appear innocent and vulnerable while internally fuming. How had Amara wronged the Everly family? She flaunted her relationship with Keith in public, completely disregarding Finnian's feelings. Was that loyalty to the Everly family?
But Finnian was generous enough not to take back the money given to Amara just on account of that aspect. Clearly, he wasn't considering her infidelity when he spoke, so Liliana kept her silence on the matter.
Soon, Finnian left. Instead of returning to the office, he drove to the Everly's estate. Parking in the driveway, he entered the main house.
Kevin's bedroom door was closed. Finnian gently opened it and saw his grandfather sleeping soundly. He stood in the doorway, not wanting to disturb him.
"Mr. Finnian Everly, Mr. Kevin Everly's been asleep for about half an hour. He usually naps around this time and should wake up soon," Lisa whispered, tiptoeing over.
Finnian nodded, his hand still on the doorknob, and after staying quietly for a moment, he carefully closed the door.
The house's walls were thick, and once the door was shut, Lisa spoke a normal volume. "Mr. Finnian Everly, I know a lot has happened recently, and both you and Mr. Kevin Everly are under a lot of stress. But remember, you're the one he cares about most. Don't buy it when he talks about liking Mrs. Amara Everly. You're his grandson. He wants you to have a better life, which is why he supports her. Don't hold it against him."
Lisa was well aware the tension between Kevin and Finnian over this period of time.
Finnian nodded. "I know, Lisa. Thanks for saying that."
He glanced again at the closed door before saying, "I'll head out. Let him rest, and no need to tell him I stopped by."
With that, Finnian left the estate and returned to his apartment.
Meanwhile, life had been pretty uneventful for Amara. Her days were routine, without any crises at work or at home. Yet, despite the calm, she couldn't shake her anxiety.
The end of the period for her divorce from Finnian was near, and she feared something might go wrong.
But that morning, when Amara woke up, everything seemed normal. The weather was fine, traffic was
smooth, and no breaking news. disturbed the peace. Even the Everly
family had been quiet. Her worries began to ease.
After freshening up, she had a simple breakfast, dressed in a plain summer dress, and styled her hair. True to her and Finnian's arrangement, she drove to the city hall at the appointed time.
