Under the Veil I Rule -
Chapter 206
"In the entire conversation, I never admitted to infidelity. Liliana is just trying to ruin me!"
That day, Liliana had called Amara over to the Everly family house and gathered all the core family members. She announced, right there in front of everyone, that she had cheated on Finnian, causing Amara unbearable humiliation and disgrace. The memory of it still stung.
Just thinking about it made Amara feel a knot in her stomach, and as she spoke, her eyes started to well up.
Finnian looked a bit flustered and unsure of what to do. He instinctively lifted his hand as if to wipe her tears, but Amara quickly turned away, wiping them herself.
"Oh, right, and about the stuff shown to Kevin, is that what you're going to ask me next? Keith and I have been friends since we were kids. We were close, sure, but it was never about crushes. I only said that to make Kevin think I had someone else, so he would agree to our divorce."
Amara was a bit calmer now, though her eyes still bore the redness. She turned away, staring at the window frame, speaking slowly and deliberately.
Finnian stood beside her, his mind a whirlwind of confusion. He couldn't quite pin down what he was feeling.
Ever since he overheard Amara say there was nothing romantic between her and Keith, his emotions had been in turmoil. And now, with the mention of that recording from the other day, he was even more...
He lifted his gaze to meet Amara's and said, "I'll make sure you get justice."
Justice? Amara let out a dry, sardonic laugh.
"I've long stopped hoping for that."
"Then what do you want?"
"A divorce. Just make it quick, get all this mess sorted out."
Amara really was exhausted. After saying her piece, she didn't want to see Finnian anymore and left the room.
Unintentionally clearing up the misunderstanding about her alleged affair was supposed to be a relief, but instead, she felt drained. She took a walk around the garden downstairs, trying to clear her mind, and finally felt a bit better.
Finnian stayed in the room, sitting on the hospital bed, neither checking his phone nor his tablet, his body motionless, eyes clouded with darkness, sitting like that the entire day.
During this time, Amara didn't return to the room. She called Keith from outside to let him know she was safe, so he wouldn't worry.
Keith asked, "What did Finnian say when he found out we're not involved like that?"
"Not much," Amara replied. "He just asked about the recording from that day and said he wanted to make things right for me."
"And what did you say?"
"I told him I'm not counting on that. Besides, I won't have anything to do with the Everlys after this. Whether they misunderstand me or not doesn't matter. But I do feel a bit better now that it's all out in the open."
Amara chatted with Keith for a bit until he had to get back to work, and then she hung up the phone.
That evening, when Amara returned
to the hospital room, she found the scene rather peculiar. The room looked almost the same as when
she had left it in the morning. Had Finnian really stayed there albday without going out or eating?
"Mr. Everly, are you hungry? I could go get some food," she offered.
"No need," Finnian replied. "Have you eaten?"
"Yes, I have."
Amara had eaten dinner before coming back. She had no intention of going hungry, especially not with the baby to think about.
Finnian nodded. "That's good."
His expression was calm, but the atmosphere was strangely tense, making Amara feel a bit uneasy.
Since she had come in, Finnian had been watching her, but he hadn't initiated any conversation. When she asked if he'd eaten, he only gave brief responses. What on earth was going on with him?
