Under the Veil I Rule -
Chapter 208
"Does Mr. Kevin Everly even know she didn't cheat on Finn? What are we going to do? What on earth are we going to do?"
Jenny had been mumbling to herself for what seemed like forever when suddenly, a light bulb went off in her head. She slapped her thigh dramatically and exclaimed, "But if she didn't cheat on Finn, what about that recording you made?
Weren't you the one who exposed her in front of the entire Everly family? Does Finn know about this?"
Mentioning Finnian made Liliana bite her lip fiercely, her eyes reddened again.
Just earlier, Finnian had asked Amara to step out, wanting a private conversation with her. She had thought Finnian was about to say something sweet, and her heart had soared with hope.
But to her shock, Finnian had begun with, "I found out today that Amara and Keith aren't together, and as she said, she didn't have an affair like she's claimed. What was that recording about?"
When she heard those words, a cold shiver ran down her spine, leaving her speechless with shock.
She tugged at her hair, desperately trying not to relive the unpleasant scene in the hospital room.
In truth, Finnian hadn't done anything to her beyond asking that one question. She had hurriedly tried to explain, "Back then, Amara's words really sounded like she was being unfaithful. I had my reasons. I would really want Ms. Sullivan to be with someone else, I was just so terrified.
So, I subconsciously believed she was having an affair and made that recording. Finn, please don't blame me."
She poured out her explanation, and shed the river of tears.
She didn't know whether Finnian believed her, but after she was done, he said, "You accused Amara of cheating on me in front of the entire Everly family, causing her emotional and reputational harm. You need to clear her name."
As Finnian addressed those words, his gaze was icy, his demeanor authoritative. Liliana didn't dare argue, nodding repeatedly before she left.
She had promised Finnian she would clear Amara's name, but how was she supposed to do that? Who was going to help her?
The next day, Amara woke up around seven, as usual, and went to the bathroom to freshen up. Meanwhile, Will brought in breakfast.
She joined Finnian for a breakfast, which went on quietly. Afterwards, she planned to read for a while but her plans were interrupted by a flurry of phone calls.
First, it was Peter and Bess, then Martin and Andrea, followed by Finnian's aunt,
his uncle, and even Lisa. In short, everyone from the Everly family.
They all called with the same
purpose: to apologize, admitting they were wrong to accuse her of being unfaithful, affirming she was a good person and whatnot.
Amara was bewildered by the calls. What was going on? She remembered Finnian's promise to set things right for her. Was this his way of doing that?
Clutching her phone, Amara bit her lip. Even though she had claimed not to care about the Everly family's opinions, no one liked being
wrongfully accused. Receiving those
apologies felt pretty satisfying.
After the last call, she returned to the hospital room from the corridor, where
Finnian asked, "Was it Peter and the others?"
"Yeah."
"They apologized to you?"
Amara nodded.
"Anyway, thanks for that," she added after a moment of thought.
Finnian glanced at her.
"You're actually thanking me? That's a first."
Amara paused. "I've never thanked you before?"
"Nope," Finnian replied as he reclined on the hospital bed, looking more relaxed
than his usual stern self, with a rare hint of laziness in his voice.
