Under the Veil I Rule -
Chapter 51
At the sight of them, Elysia's brows furrowed as she instinctively rose to her feet, like she was ready to start a fight.
Amara quickly grabbed Elysia's sleeve, whispering, “Ely, don't. Let them do whatever they want. We'll just ignore them."
“But there are so many people here who know about you and Finnian.”
Elysia's expression darkened.
“Outside is one thing, but these are all the high society folks of Wye. Many of them attended your wedding with Finnian.”
Amara understood this too. She clenched her fists, forcing herself to ignore the judgmental stares.
“It's alright. Let them gossip all they want. They've been doing it for three years. I'm used to it by now."
Amara wasn't immune to the hurt; she'd just been hurt so many times that her heart was numb. Besides, she and Finnian were getting a divorce. Better to avoid unnecessary trouble.
Elysia sighed, sitting back down next to Amara. But when she stood up earlier, Liliana had noticed her, and then she looked at Amara with a fixed gaze.
Soon, the auction began.
Liliana was undeniably the star of this auction. She had Finnian bid on only a few items for her, four in total, but each was a priceless treasure.
One of them was a rare pink diamond, and as soon as it was sold, people around them congratulated her, asking if she planned to have it set into a ring or if she and Finnian were getting married.
Liliana and Finnian didn't directly deny any of these questions, so those who were eager to flatter them started congratulating them in advance on their marriage.
Finnian, with his usual calm
demeanor, didn't refute any of the well-wishes, which made Elysia furious. By the end of the night, Elysia was seething. If it weren't for the law against assault, she'd have loved to give Finnian and Liliana a piece of her mind.
"I'm about to lose it!"
Once they went out, there was nothing to concern. Elysia howled through gritted teeth.
"That pair of cheats! Some said congratulations and they just went along with it. How shameless can they be?"
"Ms. Sullivan, Ms. Moon."
Just then, Finnian and Liliana
appeared, walking straight toward et
them in the narrow hallway. Elysia stopped talking immediately glaring daggers at Liliana.
Liliana had just acquired four high-priced pieces of jewelry and was basking in the praise of the social circle. She was on cloud nine.
She asked with a smile, "You attended the auction too? What did you bid on?"
As she spoke, she clung to Finnian's arm as if he were her husband.
"Nothing much,” Amara replied coolly, her eyes downcast, ignoring Liliana.
In her mind, she debated whether to turn around with Elysia and take another path, step aside to let Liliana and Finnian pass, or demand they make way.
The hallway was too narrow for all four of them to pass side by side.
Liliana seemed unbothered by such concerns. The jewels she acquired today were worth tens of millions, and Finnan hadn't objected once in fact, he even helped raise the bids, indicating that whatever tension had existed between them had now lifted.
