Under the Veil I Rule -
Chapter 97
Peter wanted to give Hogan a piece of his mind, but his lips trembled with such anger that he couldn't get the words out.
"Hogan, what you did was out of line," Finnian said in a cold, measured tone. "I'm not divorced yet."
Even when Finnian was furious, he never lost control. But his presence was so commanding that when he got upset, it felt like the entire room dropped a few degrees, and just a glance from him could be intimidating.
Hogan took a couple of steps back, disgruntled as he countered, "Why is it out of line? You and Amara had an arranged marriage; she's not even your real wife."
Peter and Bess immediately thought, “Uh-oh, this isn't going to end well."
Sure, everyone knew it was true. Amara and Finnian weren't spouses in the traditional sense. But to Kevin, Amara was his granddaughter-in-law, and hearing something like that would surely make his blood boil.
Sure enough, Kevin slammed his hand on the table, his voice rising a few octaves. "You ungrateful brat, how could you say something so heartless?
Amara and Finnian are properly married—they have their certificate, they've exchanged vows, and had a wedding. How does that not count as being a real couple? Are you brainless or heartless, saying something so outrageous? I think you're lacking in both!"
Kevin had gotten angry plenty of times, but never like this. His face flushed red, and he was trembling with rage, clearly deeply upset.
Martin and Andrea quickly stood up to support him, whispering words of comfort, worried that he might pass out from anger.
Kevin shook them off and pointed at Liliana, snarling, "Get out! The Sullivan family already has a daughter-in- law. Who do you think you are, coming here like you belong? Get lost!"
It was a blunt dismissal, and Liliana's face turned crimson, tears welling up in her eyes.
She reached out, clutching Finnian's sleeve, looking at him with a vulnerable expression, as if she wanted to say something but didn't dare to speak.
While Finnian's thought was unfathomable as he spotted her movement, Hogan couldn't stay
silent any longer. He had het
Finnian since they were kids,
thinking he could do no wrong. Hogan's eyes, Finnian deserved a good woman, and someone ordinary just wouldn't cut it.
When Finnian introduced Liliana to the family a few years back, Hogan was thrilled. He thought Liliana was perfect, a good match for Finnian. But when they broke up, Hogan was crestfallen for quite some time.
Later, when Grace fell seriously ill, the Everly family arranged for Finnian to marry Amara in hopes of giving Grace a final joy.
Everyone in the Everly family had seen Amara's unmasked photos. In fact, most of the upper class had seen them, so even though she usually wore a mask and looked pretty enough with just her eyes showing, people still whispered about her being "ugly".
Whenever they thought of Amara, it was her scarred face that came to mind.
The stark difference between Amara and Liliana was too much for Hogan to accept, and he grew to resent Amara. When he saw Liliana again, her beauty and poise only made him lament that such a flawless woman hadn't ended up with Finnian.
