Under the Veil I Rule -
Chapter 188
Andrea was about ready to lose it with Celeste. In a fit of frustration, she stomped on Celeste's foot and, under Finnian's icy stare, forced a smile before dragging the fuming Celeste away.
Amara watched the drama unfold, feeling utterly drained. Celeste's insults were essentially aimed at Finnian too, since they were still married. It was no surprise to her that Finnian defended her, but she had no intention of thanking him.
She didn't want to stay there under all those judgmental stares. So, she told the nurse to update her if anything happened and headed to the rooftop alone.
It was quite late, and the rooftop was deserted, with only the chilly night wind whipping around, making it an uncomfortable place to be. Amara stood there for a moment, contemplating a change of scenery when the door suddenly swung open, and a tall figure stepped out.
"So, this is where you're hiding?"
It was Hogan. He strode over to Amara, his tone dripping with sarcasm. "You got my grandfather hospitalized and Celeste caught in the crossfire. Amara, you're really something, aren't you? You won't rest until you've completely disrupted the Everly family, will you?"
"Say that again!" Amara's voice sharpened. "Do you want to get hit the second time?"
Hogan flinched, recalling the slap from Amara last time. Anger flared in his eyes.
"How dare you bring that up!" he fumed, "I haven't even settled that score with you yet!"
It all happened during Mr. Cooper's birthday party at the hotel rooftop. Finnian had kissed Amara. Witnessed by everyone, Finnian publicly acknowledged their relationship, leaving Liliana in tears. Hogan had confronted Amara about it, only to receive a slap in return. The vivid memory of that night still kept him up with rage.
"What, you want to settle scores?" Amara taunted, her gaze chilly as it landed on him.
"Go ahead, see if Finnian doesn't knock you out."
She realized that while Finnian might
not care about her personally, he valued their marriage. If Hogan dared to lay a finger on her, Finnian wouldn't stand by idly.
Hogan knew this too. He glared at Amara fiercely, his eyes blazing with anger. Then, he noticed a red mark on Amara's neck. As someone
familiar with such things, he recognized it instantly. His eyes
widened in fury.
"You've just been fooling around with another guy before coming to see Grandpa? Amara, have you no shame?"
He didn't even think before hurling the accusation, disgusted by her absurd audacity, in spite of having long since learned about this woman's shameless character.
Amara shook with anger. "What did you just say? You dare insult me?"
Following Hogan's gaze, she noticed the conspicuous mark. She realized the misunderstanding but knew it was the kind of thing impossible to explain away. Frustration and fury welled up inside her.
Amara's hesitance consolidated Hogan's theory as he sneered frigidly, "Can't say anything, can you? Just admit it, you're a shameless woman."
"Shut up!"
A cold voice cut through the air. Both Hogan and Amara turned to see a tall, imposing figure striding towards them, a fierce look on his handsome face.
Finnian stopped in front of Hogan, each word deliberate. "Take back what you just said and apologize to Amara."
"Finnian, you want me to apologize?"
Hogan looked at Finnian in disbelief.
