Under the Veil I Rule -
Chapter 195
Everyone had gone outside, leaving just Amara and Finnian alone in the hospital room. Feeling a bit awkward, Amara asked, "So, what did you want to talk about?"
Finnian stared at her for a moment, and then out of nowhere, he asked, "When I got into the accident, what were you thinking?"
The weird question caught Amara off guard.
"Well, I was pretty worried," Amara replied after a pause. "I mean, accidents are no small thing."
She quickly added, afraid that Finnian might get the wrong idea, "Kevin was really concerned about you earlier, and so was Lisa. We all just want you to get better."
Her words were meant to clarify that her concern was just like everyone else's, hoping Finnian wouldn't read too much into it.
Finnian's eyes darkened, and he didn't respond.
"Uh, so, what did you want to talk about?" Amara pressed, noticing his silence.
Finnian seemed to snap back to the present as he uttered coolly, "Sorry about missing the divorce appointment again. The doctor says I should be discharged in about a week, and then we can finalize things right away."
He seemed unusually agreeable, like he'd reverted back to his old self, which was a bit disconcerting for Amara. After all, Finnian had been anything but pleasant recently.
But his change in demeanor was a good thing. Amara replied, "No worries, it wasn't your fault this time."
"If there's nothing else, I'll get going," she added, glancing at the door.
Finnian had no reason to stop her, so he nodded, and Amara left the room. As soon as she exited, she found Liliana standing right outside, eyes fixed on her. "What did Finn say to you?"
Amara didn't even spare her a glance. "If you're curious, ask him yourself."
With that, she turned and walked away.
Liliana clenched her teeth, glaring at Amara's retreating figure for a few seconds before finally returning to the room.
Outside, Kevin was ready to head home and offered Amara a ride. As she got out of the car, Kevin suddenly asked, "How are things with your actor boyfriend?"
Amara wasn't sure why he brought it up but replied, "It's going well, I guess."
"That's good to hear. You should bring him over for dinner sometime. Let me get to know him."
Silent, Amara was so surprised her mouth was agape. Though masked, her wide- eyed expression made Kevin chuckle.
"Why the face? Too shocked?" he laughed, but soon let out a sigh.
"I've come to realize that the happiness and safety of my family is what truly matters. From now on, you're my granddaughter. Bring that young actor over, if he's good to I'll treat him like family as wet."
"Alright, I'll talk to him and bring him over."
Kevin's sudden change in attitude was astounding, like he'd gone from a traditional patriarch to a
progressive granddad overnightnet
Amar@was almost bewildered by it. But his newfound openness was a refief.
Once Amara got home, her phone buzzed with messages from her group chat, Elysia and Keith was asking about the divorce status. Just as she was feeling okay, their messages brought a fresh wave of apprehension.
